Firefox OS – Here Comes A New Challenger

The mobile operating system is heating up with newcomer Firefox OS developed by Mozilla.  It is an open source mobile operating system that is built for smartphones and tablets.  Implemented with HTML 5 applications directly into the device’s hardware by using JavaScript, it has been tested with several Android based smartphones.

Firefox OS is a new mobile operating system developed by Mozilla’s Boot to Gecko (B2G) project. It uses a Linux kernel and boots into a Gecko-based run time engine, which lets users run applications developed entirely using HTML, JavaScript, and other open Web application APIs.

There are a lot of benefits that Firefox OS can provide.  One of them is freedom from proprietary mobile platforms.  Whats great about this is that you as a developer or an end user will be able to use and access your apps across multiple devices from any manufacturers.

As Firefox OS is implementing HTML 5 into their system, it opens up a slew of possibilities for developers to create amazing beautiful functional apps for the OS.  It frees the developers from being tied up by the platform specific native APIs.

The OS also works smoothly on entry level to mid range smartphones.  This would open up more features and abilities to optimize the usage of those type of smartphones thus enabling their users to get more out bang for their buck.

The Firefox OS is gaining momentum, the flexibility of the OS certainly is one of the reasons that will pull users to try it out and hopefully convert those who are interested.  Like their browser, Mozilla will shake the mobile OS scene and bring out more creativity and innovativeness in the mobile OS industry.
